Saint Mary’s Weekly News

October 23, 2016 – The Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost

Prayers Requested for Diocesan Convention: Saturday, October 22

Everyone is asked to remember Bishop Steve and all of the Convention delegates as decisions are made about the mission and ministry of our Diocese. Pray for the group to be united by the Holy Spirit in a clear sense of direction for the future.

Many Thanks to Fr. David Illingworth

He is serving Sunday as our guest Preacher and Presider as Nathan is away in North Carolina at a CREDO conference. CREDO is an effort from our Church Pension Fund to provide resources that boost the overall health and energy of clergy from across the Episcopal Church. Nathan returns late Monday evening.

Stewardship 2017:  Celebrate, Honor, Serve

What is pledging? A pledge is a promise to give a donation to support our mission and ministries for 2017.  Annual pledges, loose offerings and our two major fundraisers are the primary revenue sources supporting all of our program and institutional expenses. We time our stewardship drive to allow us to budget wisely and adequately for the work we do. Pledging supports everything from supplies for Guiding RAY, sheet music for the choir and our Outreach ministries to the plowing service and communion wine – allowing us to fulfill our mission and vision to Celebrate, Honor and Serve God.  When you make your confidential pledge, you will have the option to give weekly, quarterly, semiannually and annually. You can set up an automatic transfer from your bank or receive a set of envelopes to use as you pay your pledge via check or cash. We also receive gifts of appreciated stocks and securities. Every pledge we receive supports the work we do and all gifts are celebrated. If you need another pledge form, you’ll find them in the entry to the Church and in the Parish Hall by the Guild Room. Thank you for considering a pledge. Together we will the difference.

Royal School of Church Music Planning Meeting: 10/25 at 7 PM

This is a first step meeting for those interested in launching a RSCM Chapter at Saint Mary’s in 2017. Gather at the home of Priscilla Rigg (at 1 Alumni Lane on the Oceanview campus) to learn more and to briefly discuss this possibility. All are welcome!

Community Harvest Dinner: Thursday, October 20

The 8th annual Harvest Community Supper will be held at the Falmouth Congregational Church (267 Falmouth Road) on Thursday, October 20, 2016, from 4:30 to 7:00PM. Saint Mary’s, the other Falmouth churches and Jewish community, will combine to host a free turkey supper to raise funds for the Falmouth Food Pantry, a resource devoted to serving the growing needs of many in our area. Please come by and enjoy an evening of good food, goodwill and friendship. Free-will donations will be gratefully accepted.

As one of the hosts of this event, parishioners from Saint Mary’s are asked to donate and cook turkeys, bake squash, and help with serving and cleanup.

Please volunteer by signing up before October 7, on a poster near the Guild Room. Thank you in advance for supporting this worthy cause. Call John Brooks (781-2097) with any questions.”

Have a stash of fabric or yarn?  Bring that in too!

We are still collecting dried beans for Saint Mary’s Friendship Soup ---any type or color but, please, no lentils.

Community Care & Nurture

Wisdom Seekers: every Tuesday at 10:30 AM

This Bible study group meets on Tuesdays in the Guild Room. Nadine Timberlake is the group leader. All are welcome, because there is always room for anyone who wants to study the Bible and discuss its meaning for our lives today.

Thursday Eucharist: every Thursday in the Chapel at 12 noon

This is an informal time to gather at the Lord’s Table with a meditation on the scripture or the saint of the day, time for group discussion, and prayers for healing. It usually lasts about 45 minutes. All are welcome!

Noonday Prayer: every other weekday in the Chapel

Pause for 10 minutes of prayer together. Everyone is welcome! You are also invited, wherever you may be, to STOP and PRAY with us in the Spirit at 12 noon for those in need, for our parish family, for our bishop, and for your own daily life with God.
