Saint Mary's eNEWS for 1.24.16

Saint Mary’s Weekly News

January 24, 2016 – The Third Sunday after the Epiphany

Celebrate Honor Serve

Thank you the 132 parish households which have pledged for 2016. We are VERY close to reaching our pledge goal of $265,000. If you haven't turned in your completed pledge form, PLEASE take a few minutes to do so. Meeting our pledge goal means our programs will have the funding needed to continue. It means our buildings will continue to be warm, inviting and able to support our programs and community. Thank you!

Annual Meeting &Vision Event: Sunday, January 31, 9 AM to 12 Noon.

“Any person age fifteen years or older who has attended and supported the Church for six months and accepts its Constitution shall be considered a voting member of the Parish.” So state our Constitution and By-laws. Everyone is invited for this special event, even if you are not voting. Brunch will be supplied, childcare will be available, and the Holy Spirit will be guiding us! Come to learn about what is in store for us in 2016.

January 24 and 31: Sunday mornings at Coffee Hour

Come to the Auditorium to enjoy the several notebooks of Saint Mary’s history in clippings and photographs on exhibit throughout the mornings. There will also be a pile of duplicate photos that are free for the taking.  Look for the sign!  Thanks to Lee Snow, who continues the good archival work of Marge, Hannah, Jennifer & others.

Time to update the Saint Mary's Member and Friends Directory!

Time to update all of your information. We need it ready to distribute on January 31!

Please check one of the draft copies at the back narthex of the church or circulating on clipboards during coffee hour.  Or call Beth in the parish office (781-3366) with any changes or updates.    Last day to make changes or corrections!

A Networking Opportunity!  TODAY’s the deadline for changes or additions

Are you looking for clients?  An electrician? Golf or ski partners?  Seeking to learn knitting or other fine skills?   I bet there are other parishioners who are interested!  Expand your professional and social networks by offering a few words about your vocation and/or avocations for publication in the 2016 Saint Mary’s Members and Friends Directory!  Email the information to Beth Shaw at admin@smary.org by January 24,

NEW!!  We’d also like to set up our own ‘Angie’s List’ where we can recommend to each other, folks that have done good, trustworthy and recommendable work for us - carpenters, plumbers, nails, restaurants, service companies, bakeries, you name it.  No critiques please – just one line endorsements.

2016 Offering Envelopes are here!

Please pick up your envelopes today! If you forgot to check the box on your pledge form, but would like envelopes, simply sign-up for them on the Table outside the Guild Room.

Annual ALL PARISH Ice Skating: Monday, January 25 at 5:30 PM

Families and children of all ages are invited to join Father Nathan for ice-skating at the Family Ice outdoor rink at Lee Twombly Pond. Guiding RAY will be providing hot coffee, hot chocolate, cookies and conversation in the warm-up room for skaters and their fans!   Stay as long as you like. Invite a friend. Hope to see you all there!

Family Chapel “Alleluia” banner & palm burning: Sundays at 9:30 AM

Over the course of the next month in Family Chapel, Fr. Nathan and the children will be preparing an “ALLELUIA” banner which we will “bury” on February 7. This is when we will also burn last year’s palms to create ashes for Ash Wednesday.

The Middlers: in transition

The Middlers program is on hold until two new leaders are found. We are hoping soon to hire two young adults to lead the group every Sunday from now until June. Until then, youth are welcome to hang out in the Youth Room. But they are asked not to stay there during the Eucharist, but rather come and join their families in the liturgy. Thank you!

February 10 is Ash Wednesday: The Invitation to a Holy Lent

There will be multiple opportunities for everyone to observe this special day of fasting, prayer and self-denial. In addition, if anyone would like ashes brought to a homebound member, please call the Parish Office right away. Our Ash Wednesday services will be:
