Gatherings & Events

Calling All Artists!

We have several small wooden frames available for any of our parish artists to paint as a donation for the Farm to Table dinner and auction on 8/18/18. The frames are on the sign-up table in the Parish House. Please consider channeling your creativity and painting a frame(s). Please return the painted frames by 8/12.

Also if you’re an artist and would like to have a piece or two on display in the Parish House, please contact Jim Kane, melissa1959@earthlink.net  329-1764 or Janet Bowne, janetbowne@maine.rr.com or 207.318.7045

Summer Farm-to-Table Dinner & Auction: Saturday, August 18

The auction items are coming in, so it's time to turn our attention to the fabulous dinner awaiting all who join us for this wonderful evening. Like many of the best chefs, a team of Saint Mary's best chefs are curating a culinary event that will be unforgettable! Organically raised beef and chicken will be artfully prepared and paired with side dishes featuring the best and most locally available of the season, plus Rick Hirschman’s baking talents put to splendid use.  Some of the dishes may include: marinades with fresh herbs, shallots and wine, delicious reductions, amazing combinations and delightful sauces.  Only the freshest of local meats, vegetables and fruit combined and created into unbelievable fare.

Farm-to-Table is about eating local, so consider helping by adding to the local produce from your own gardens, farm stands, farm shares or farmers markets.

We could use large bunches of fresh garlic and herbs (basil, thyme, sage, rosemary, dill, oregano, parsley), or other local produce like new potatoes, onions, shallots, ears of corn, carrots, peas, zucchini, summer squash, radishes, beets, cauliflower, lettuces, heirloom tomatoes, eggplant…or even local dry, sharp cheese or goat cheese…could be local eggs, cream, or even mussels!  We’d love to have your contributions by Friday morning (8/17) or knowledge of them sooner by email to babsi821@gmail.com   Click for a full donation list.

Still working on the auction, so if you can offer a service or an experience or prefer to underwrite an item or gift certificates, contact the Melissa Kane, melissa1959@earthlink.net  or Janet Bowne, janetbowne@maine.rr.com

Zenith Journey to Katahdin: August 23-25

Every Mainer should Baxter State Park and attempt to reach the summit of Katahdin (the zenith of Maine), if they are able. Join this group of up to 10 people for a summer-time adventure in amazing Baxter State Park. Two nights in lean-to’s;  space is limited, so speak with Sr. Warden, Jim Kane, 329-1764.

Sparkles is gearing up!

Many, many, many thanks for the generous donations made to Sparkles this year already.  We even cleaned out the remainder of a neighbor’s garage sale thanks to a parishioner who asked if we could.  We are also in need of some woodworking and refinishing expertise and help for a couple of projects.  If you could lend us a hand with a wobbly table and a broken shelf or help us repurpose a baby crib into easels, we would really appreciate it.  Please contact Jana Burke at 272-4535.
