Constellation comes to Saint Mary's, Sat, Nov 2, 7pm
Saint Mary's is pleased to host the wonderful professional group, CONSTELLATION MEN'S ENSEMBLE, which will present CAELO:LUCEAT, a concert that will include the world premiere of the men's ensemble version of Ēriks Ešenvalds' "Northern Lights." This compline-based program will also feature works by Henry Cowell, Augusta Read Thomas, Pauline Oliveros, Arthur Sullivan, Gregory Brown, and more. The men of Constellation are on a New England fall tour visiting one of our founding members, Patrick Volker, who is also a member of the St Mary Schola. With a kickoff concert in Chicago on October 25, they will travel to Boston, Portland, ME, and Scarborough, ME with another meditative hour of uninterrupted music, this time exploring all of the lights in our night sky.
Ministry Fair: November 3 following each liturgy
This is what the festival of All Saints' is really about! Our parish community works because we all are willing to engage in fulfilling God's mission in this place. Discover the many ways this happens through our ministries, committees and guilds. Representatives from each group will be available to answer questions or share their passion for their ministry with you. Then you can sign up to get involved. Be part of what God is doing here!
Common Ground: every Thursday potluck & conversation
The basic Common Ground structure is:
5 – 7 pm Potluck-style dinner. Take a break from cooking a whole meal. Bring a dish or just eat what we have. If you are not hungry, come anyway to enjoy the fellowship and discussion. Open to everyone!!
5:45 pm Gather for a conversation on important issues for our community.
Common Ground on Oct 31 Trick or Treat! a special Common Ground
Beat the rain!! Bring your kiddos to Trick or Treat in the parish house where it'll be warm & dry!
Potluck dinner will begin at 5pm and will continue while the Trick or Treating festivities will start at 5:45. For those who are ready, there will also be guided tours of Saint Mary's Crypt!

Autumn Sunday Formation: 9:30 – 10 AM
Everyone is invited to gather on Sunday mornings in either of two groups – a prayerful group meeting in the Chapel, and a discussion group meeting in the Auditorium.

Acolytes needed! New training to be offered on November 10
Young people (age 8 and up) as well as adults are invited to become acolytes. Our acolytes help the clergy to lead worship on Sundays and Holy Days, and they have the summer off. The Gospel and Epistle acolytes carry the torches (candles) and the Crucifer carries the cross. The training provided by Father Nathan is short and easy. It is scheduled for Sunday, 11/10 after the 10:15am liturgy. Acolytes generally serve once a month. A great way to connect with your parish family and to gather community service hours. Youth Ministry
Guiding RAY (Religious Adventures for Youth): Sundays, 10 AM
Our Guiding RAY programs for all young people ages 0 to 14, with classes beginning at 10am. The Nursery, classes for pre-K through grade 5, and a group for Middle Schoolers now called Ignite are all available. Our classes are designed to both appeal to and offer our children an opportunity to learn key bible stories and to develop their relationship with God. This week in Guiding RAY Today we will be joined by Rev. Portia Hirschman and she will talk with us about the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. The Guiding RAY kids will be in church to witness and give their support to Harleigh and Ian and will join the congregation in the Prayers for the Candidates.
Guiding SAY (Singing Adventures for Youth): Sundays, 9:35 AM
Before Guiding RAY classes begin, all young people are invited to gather downstairs with our own Maria Belva for fun singing. No special skill or experience required, only a willingness to sing together.
The Nursery is open for our youngest parishioners every Sunday, 9 - 11:30am, so parents can attend Formation classes or sing in the choir. Please contact Megan Akers, GuidingRAY@smary.org, if you are able to assist with care.
IGNITE - Middle School Youth Group:! All kids in grades 6-8 are welcome to join this growing group that meets twice a month on Sundays at 10 AM downstairs in the Youth Room. Meeting THIS Sunday and we will be making pancakes! Next November meeting: Sunday, Nov. 17.
Serving the World
Responding to Maine's Opioid Crisis: Sunday, Nov 3, 4-6pm
Join us on Sunday afternoon for the fourth in a series of presentations aimed at approaching the crisis through education and responding effectively from a place of compassion. This subject is "Recovery Houses: The Needs and the Hurdles" featuring Ron Springel from the Governor's Opioid Response office and Author of Good Neighbor Policy. There will be a presentation, personal testimony, and time for question & answer.
Souper Supper: 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month
Our free suppers in our Parish House Auditorium open to anyone and everyone. Please consider dropping in sometime between 5 – 7 PM on either evening for dinner served in a family-style setting and consisting of a hearty soup, salad, bread, homemade desserts and beverages. Gatherings & Events
Concert Spirituel: Sunday, November 17, 4pm
All are welcome for a 'Concert Spirituel' offered by the many talented folks from Saint Mary's. The concert will begin in the auditorium, where we will enjoy our youth's musical abilities, including the children of Guiding SAY, under the direction of Maria Belva, singing 'Breathe in, Breathe Out.' Thomas Troeger will play some beautiful flute pieces as well. The concert will then move to the church, where two works of J. S. Bach, the Sonata in G major with cellist, John Bennett, and the Passacaglia in c minor by Bruce Fithian.
"Be Still" on Monday evenings
Begin your week by centering in God! You are cordially invited to join a small group of parishioners and local residents for an hour of quiet reflection every Monday evenings from 5:30-6:30 in the Father James' Chapel. We begin with a short, accompanied Taize chant (lyrics provided), followed by 20 minutes of meditation, and then a short reading from scripture or poetry to consider and respond, as desired. Sparkles NEWS: Sparkles Fair coming soon on December 7
Thanks again to everyone who attended SPARKLES SPIRITS Saturday night, and especially to the cooks who prepared the delicious appetizers. The Guild Room was beautiful, the food was wonderful, and the conversations sparkling. Your orders will be ready for pick up on Sunday November 24. Enjoy at Thanksgiving, Christmas, for unexpected guests, or just for yourself.
If you have already donated items to Sparkles, please accept our heartfelt THANKS! Our next official drop-off date for donated items will be Saturday, November 9. We especially need toys and children's items and Christmas decorations of all kinds, including ornaments, wreaths and garland, swags, Christmas "picks", and wrapping paper and ribbons.
BEANS and more BEANS! We need lots and lots of beans to create Saint Mary's popular Friendship Soup. Please put your bags of dried beans (any color or type) in the basket outside the Guild Room.
The next planning meeting for Sparkles is Sunday, November 3 at 9:00am in the Guild Room. We welcome all parishioners to our meetings, so please jump in!
You are also invited to a special SPARKLES Coffee Hour next week (November 10) after both services. There will be tastings and other goodies to eat, and sign-up sheets for volunteer opportunities. If you volunteered to donate a Gift Basket(s), please remember that they are also due on Sunday, November 10.

Wisdom Seekers: Bible Study on Tuesday mornings
At 10:30 AM every Tuesday morning, a group gathers to study the Scriptures appointed for the upcoming Sunday. It is a great way to prepare oneself for the Eucharist. Some stay afterward for NoonDay Prayer. All are welcome to join the group at any time.
