Saint Mary’s NEWS for 1 November 2020

Evensong for All Saints Day:  Nov 1 at 3 pm and on Facebook Live

All are invited for a quiet hour of chant and prayer. Featuring the soloist, Rachel Keller, a member of the St Mary Schola, accompanied by Bruce Fithian on organ, with Fr Nathan presiding. 35 people maximum in the Sanctuary and streaming live on Facebook. This Evensong includes beautiful settings of the traditional Magnificat (Mary’s Song) and the Nunc Dimittis (Simeon’s Song) by Richard Shephard. The settings of the Prayers and Responses are by Peter Aston. A serene organ prelude, the Passacaglia, by Paul Bryan and a festive Carillon by Malcolm Archer will frame this time of prayer.

Autumn Lectionary

As in years past, our autumn readings will have an intentional focus on one biblical book. This year it is Saint Paul’s Letter to the Church in Philippi, a brief letter that is packed with famous and remarkable passages. Follow Nathan’s sermons through the season to learn about this text and how Paul’s words connect with Jesus’ teachings in the Gospel.

Nov 8  Philippians 4.1-9 / Psalm 70 / Matthew 25.1-13

Nov 15 Philippians 4.10-20 / Psalm 123 / Matthew 25.14-30

Nov 22 Revelation 1.1-8 / Psalm 95.1-7 / Matthew 25.31-40

(readings selected for Christ the King Sunday)

A Season of Prayer for an Election: October 27 to November 4

All members of the Church are asked to join together in prayer for God’s wisdom,  love and joy to flood our nation. Using the tradition of a novena (nine days of prayer), the Episcopal Church is offering daily prayers for use by all. This supports the Presiding Bishop’s National Service for Healing and Wholeness TODAY at 4 PM. Look for these prayers and resources online until November 4.
