Portland Bach Festival wraps up: June 17 

Pairing the best of Bach with the best of Portland! Featuring renowned Maine, National and International artists. We have been pleased to be a part of the Portland Bach Experience;  patrons and musician alike have been impressed with our campus and the welcome reception they’ve received.  Thank you!

Saint  Mary’s 2018 Trek Across Maine Team - June 15-17

The Trek Across Maine is a 3-day, 180-mile cycling event from the mountains of Sunday River to the sea in Belfast. As the largest fundraising event of its kind in the nation for the American Lung Association, the Trek has raised more than $24 million in the past 30+ years. Nearly 2,000 cyclists and 750 volunteers participate in this one of a kind annual journey on Father’s Day Weekend. 

 The 2018 Saint Mary’s Trek team, named Godspeed, is currently comprised of Father Nathan, Bruce Fithian, John Henson, Greg Fergin, David Duchin, and Charlie Hurdman.

Souper Suppers:  2nd & 4th Fridays – July 14 & 28

Twice each month, anytime from 5 to 7 pm, any person can come to our Auditorium for a free supper of soup, bread, salad and desserts. No questions asked. No donations accepted. Each table is served and bussed. And community is created. Come and try it!

Falmouth Food Pantry

Collecting weekly for those in need in our local communities.  FFP is always in need of hot and cold cereals; canned meats and fish; canned soups (especially healthy and low sodium; canned fruit (especially light or in juice.) Thank you for your generosity! Bring these with you on Sundays or to the Parish House during the week.

Youth Ministry

Guiding RAY  (Religious Adventures for Youth): off until September 9  

Our Guiding RAY programs for all young people ages 1 to 14 have had an exciting  17-18 program year!  From September to mid-June, we gather all together beginning at 9:45am with classes beginning at 10am.  For more information on Guiding RAY, please visit our website  www.smary.org .

The Nursery  Though Guiding RAY classes have ended for the summer, Nursery Care during the second service will continue from 9:15-10:30 in the Kneeler Room (near the auditorium).  In order to ensure the safety of our youngest parishioners, two adults are needed in the nursery area. Please contact Alison Hayward, ajhmcmonagle@gmail.com, if you are able to assist her in the nursery this summer. 

Young Life Club: off for the summer, but camp is coming!

Young Life camps are designed only with teenagers in mind. They deliver the best week that a kid can imagine! There is still a few spots on our bus. Interested?

Camp Bishopswood - for a summer of fun for all ages – Register now

Located on the shores of Lake Megunticook in the Camden Hills, the Diocesan camp, begun in the  early 1960s, has mini-sessions for first-time campers, multi-week sessions, and a family Finale week(end) when anyone can stay at camp.  For more information,  visit the website www.bishopswood.org

Summer Farm-to-Table Event & Auction: Saturday, August 18

To be held on our lawns, weather permitting. Beginning at 4:30 pm, rain or shine; join fellow parishioners, family and friends for fun, fellowship and feasting. Locally sourced beef, chicken and fresh vegetables prepared in unbelievable ways!  Save the Date!

The Auction Committee is accepting live and silent auction items.  Kindly consider donating an auction item to this event.  Can you offer a service or an experience? Zenith Journey to Katahdin: August 23-25

Every Mainer should visit Chimney Pond in Baxter State Park and reach the summit of Katahdin (the zenith of Maine), if they are able. Join this group of up to 8 people for a summer-time adventure in amazing Baxter State Park. Two nights in lean-to’s, one of which will be at the famous Chimney Pond campground. ECVA is a National Organization bringing together Episcopalian Visual Artists across the country. Erin McGee Ferrell is a new board member of ECVA and excited to engage Saint Mary’s community with this national conversation around Faith and Art. Thank you soooo much to all those who have already donated items for Sparkles 2018!  We appreciate your generosity very much.

Congratulations

To all graduates and those moving on to new phases of life who have worked hard and whom we are most proud of the young adults they are growing into: 

John Edwards, Hannah Kiely, Benjamin Otte, Caleb Robinson, & Emma Robinson.

 

And we honor these young adults who are moving on from secondary education: Sarah Brown, Angus Ferrell, Chris McGonigle, Tim McGonigle, Michael McIntosh, Annie Mead, Halsey Payne, Michael Richards, and Kayla Rose.

We are always thankful to all who volunteer and work so diligently on the many projects, committees, guilds and ministries that makes  Saint Mary’s the vibrant community that it is. 

We take this particular day to thank those that are taking a hiatus from their active work as we slip into a slower-paced summer mode.

Guiding RAY volunteers  

Being a Guiding RAY volunteer is an amazing job and working with our children is one of our most fulfilling ministries. We at Saint Mary’s have many people who have given their time, treasure, and talent to introduce our kids to Jesus Christ, to plant the seed of God's Word into their hearts, to model the love of Jesus, and to nurture and shepherd them into a lasting relationship with God.  Please take a moment to thank the adults who have been involved with Guiding RAY this year, because right now, this is the best we can do for these dedicated saints…at least on this side of heaven!

The Royal School of Church Music program at Saint Mary's is thriving, thanks to the inspiration leadership of Priscilla Rigg, who has met with the children every Sunday and initiated them into the joys of singing and spiritual song. Along with Priscilla, her assistant, Dawn Yerkes, has offered her endless enthusiasm and guidance in this worthy endeavor. We also wish to thank Maggie Gardner, Betsy Stoddard, Alison Hayward-McMonagle, Tim Record, volunteers, and of course, the parents who have offered their time and support.

Many thanks to Priscilla Rigg, who enabled Saint Mary's to acquire a whole set of Dutch-made Petit & Fritsen bells. Because of the generosity of Priscilla and the Eatons, these bells will grace our services in the future by the newly-formed bell choir.

Souper Supper: 2^nd and 4^th Fridays of each month  

Our free suppers in our Parish House Auditorium open to anyone and everyone. Please consider dropping in sometime between 5 – 7 PM on either evening for dinner served in a family-style setting and consisting of a hearty soup, salad, bread, homemade desserts and beverages. And we are always looking for more servers to join the Souper Supper Team. FMI, contact Jennifer Gregg.

St Elizabeth’s Essentials Pantry

St. Elizabeth’s Essentials Pantry is an exciting mission effort of The Episcopal Diocese of Maine. Supported by eight local Episcopal Churches, including Saint Mary’s, St. Elizabeth’s celebrated the 12^th year distributing non-food essentials, clothes, and small household items to the most needy among us.

It’s a place where every week we can be Christ for others as we see Christ in others.  The Pantry is a non-barrier program serving on average 250 individuals each week, many of whom are immigrants and refugees for whom English is not their primary language.

Youth Ministry

The Royal School of Church Music Choirs
Although today is the last day of RSCM, each Sunday during the program year, the Angel Choir and St. Cecilia Choir meet at 9:00 in the downstairs Choir room and following the 10 o'clock liturgy, the St. Cecilia Choir meets in the downstairs for 30 minutes to learn the fundamentals of music and singing using the highly acclaimed RSCM workbooks. Guiding RAY (Religious Adventures for Youth)

Our Guiding RAY programs for all young people ages 1 to 14 has had an exciting  program year!  Our GR program will take a break for the summer months and resume on September 9.  For more information on our Guiding RAY, please visit our website  www.smary.org .

The Nursery  opens at 9:45am for our youngest disciples in the Guiding RAY area every Sunday morning for the later Eucharist.

This Sunday is the last Day of Guiding RAY for this program year.  Families will be in church for the full service as we celebrate and give thanks for a great year together.  Strawberry shortcake and fun fellowship will follow at 11 AM.

Gonna make this garden grow

The soil makes the young plant come up. A garden causes seeds to grow. In the same way, the LORD and King will make godliness grow. And all of the nations will praise him."  Isaiah 61:11 NIRV

 

 The Saint Mary’s Vegetable Garden has been constructed and the Guiding RAY kids have sown the seeds.  Now we need help from the whole parish to weed and water our Vegetable Garden. Please pick a time during the summer when you could help care for our vegetable garden by watering and weeding. The bounty that we receive will be donated to the Falmouth Food Pantry as well as our Farm to Table dinner auction. Sign-up sheet is outside the Guild Room.

Camp Bishopswood - for a summer of fun for all ages – Register now

Diocesan Adult Retreat:  Where do you find God? 

June 15 – 17 at Camp Bishopwood in Hope Maine.  The annual diocesan retreat is an opportunity to step away from the busyness of everyday like and be refreshed .  This year they will use Celtic and Ignatian resources to help connect with Christ in nature, scripture, community.  Visit adult retreat fon the Diocesan website www.episcopalmaine.org

Wisdom Seekers: Tuesdays at 10:30 AM

This Bible study group meets weekly in the Guild Room. Everyone is welcome! We are currently studying the Acts of the Apostles, Join us!

Chapel Eucharist: Thursdays in the Chapel at 12 noon

This is an informal time (in a beautiful space!) to gather at the Lord’s Table with a meditation on the scripture or the saint of the day and prayers for healing.

Thursday, June 14 is the last gathering before our summer break. 

Noonday Prayer: Mon - Wed in the Chapel 

Pause for 10 minutes of prayer together. You are also invited, wherever you may be, to STOP and PRAY with us in the Spirit at 12 noon for those in need, for our parish family, our bishop, and our own daily life with God.
