Getting Ready for Sunday!
Special Parish Meeting: THIS Sunday, October 14 9:30am
Plan on attending this special Parish Meeting to choose Electors of our next Bishop. All nominations will come from the floor at the meeting, so plan to nominate someone! According to our Bylaws: "Any person age fifteen years or older who has attended and supported Saint Mary's for six months and accepts its Constitution shall be considered a voting member of the Parish." Come and vote! Due to this Special Meeting, there will be no 9:30 am adult Formation groups meeting on Sunday morning, October 14.

10/11: Addiction Crisis – Milestone Recovery and healthcare
Bob Fowler, Director of Milestone Recovery, will speak with us about what is new in treatment and prevention, and how we can make a difference in this addiction crisis
10/18: Harvest Community Supper – at Falmouth Congo Church
10/25: Halloween Party – games, prizes and fun for all ages!
The basic structure is:
5 - 7pm Potluck-style dinner. Take a break from cooking a whole meal. Bring a piece or just eat what we have. If you can't imagine eating early, come and enjoy fellowship and discussion. Open to everyone!!
5:30 pm Voice for Life – music training open to all OR
5:45-6:45 pm Presentations on topical issues in our community.
6:45 pm Compline Service in the Fr James Chapel and clean-up
Compline is a ten-minute choral service from the early church intended for the end of the day. It is a perfect way to unwind and enter into a spirit of quiet prayer and meditation. There are gentle hymns of thanksgiving that we don't typically sing on Sunday mornings, because they are meant for the end of the day.

This beautiful service begins with the lucernarium procession, in which the candles are lit and all sing the refrain 'Jesus Christ is the light of the world,' accompanied by hand bells, and continuing with a psalm setting in Anglican chant, a setting of Mary's song, the Magnificat, by Herbert Howells, great evening hymns, a newly composed anthem by one of our choir members, David Vernier (A Prayer for Quiet Confidence) and the RSCM children's choir singing the Phos hilaron (now that we come to the end of the day).
Serving our World
Mission Morning at Saint Mary's: NEXT Sunday, October 21
Gather together in work clothes to go out and serve! We gather in the Auditorium at 9 am for a short reflection, after which we will disperse in small groups into the community for various projects through which we seek God in others and in creation, returning between 11 and 11:30 am for fellowship and lunch.
The nursery will be available for our youngest folks (up to 3 ½ yrs) from 9 to noon.
The selection of projects offer something for every age, physical capability and "comfort zone!"
►Falmouth Clean-up led by Bonny Rodden. Please bring sturdy shoes and gloves. (Family Friendly)
►Morning at Milestone led by Judith Brooks. Projects in support of those in recovery at one of the Milestone Foundations. (Sorry, you will miss lunch.) (Adults only)
► Scarf-Making led by Julie Otte – Stay at Saint Mary's to make winter scarves (both sewn and tied) to be tied on trees and poles in Portland for those in need in February. We will begin with an age-appropriate short movie addressing the needs and have a contemplative reflection to take with you. (Family Friendly!)
► Bringing Sunshine to Seniors - Distribute flowers and visit with residents of The Cedars in Portland. (Family Friendly!)
► Fall Clean-up for Neighbors in Need. Indoor and outdoor projects at the home of a fellow parishioner and a Falmouth Food Pantry Client (Family Friendly!)
(There will be the regular 8am Contemplative Eucharist on October 21)
11th Annual Harvest Community Supper: Thu, Oct 18, 4:30-7PM
Saint Mary's joins with other religious communities in Falmouth to once again host a free turkey supper to raise funds for the Falmouth Food Pantry, a resource devoted to serving the needs of many in our area. The community dinner is held at the Falmouth Congregational Church (267 Falmouth Road) on Thursday, October 18, from 4:30 to 7PM. Plan on coming to enjoy an evening of good food, goodwill and friendship. Free-will donations will be gratefully accepted. Thank you in advance for supporting this worthy cause. Episcopal Relief and Development is working with partners to provide critical support for the most vulnerable communities affected by recent hurricanes in the South as well as disasters overseas. Sparkles NEWS: coming soon on December 1
Our next Drop Off Date is this Saturday, October 13 from 9:00am until 11:00am. As a reminder, we need gently-used jewelry, linens, and household items, such as china and dishes, crystal, silver, and small furniture and home décor items. We also are requesting lots of toys, Christmas wrapping paper and ribbons, and Christmas decorations.
After you drop off your items in the morning, come back for Sparkles Spirits at 6:00pm. Don't miss this opportunity to sample and order appetizers from some of S. Mary's best cooks! Enjoy tasting the homemade appetizers (12 different appetizers in all) with a beverage of your choice; make it a special evening for the two of you or a night out with friends and neighbors. Tickets are available in the S. Mary Office or from Jan Mordarski (317-0486) or Onnie Hastings (671-6073).
BEANS and more BEANS! We need lots and lots of beans to create Saint Mary's popular Friendship Soup. Put your bags of dried beans (any color or type) in the basket outside the Guild Room.
The next planning meeting for Sparkles is Thursday, October 25 at 3:30pm (note the new time) in the Guild Room.
Youth Ministry
Guiding RAY (Religious Adventures for Youth)
During the 9:30 - 10:00 Formation time, we will welcome members of Mission and Outreach who will share their experiences on the value of Mission Mornings. All are welcome to join this presentation.
This week in Guiding RAY we will be continuing our lesson on God's promise to Noah, to God's family, and to us. The sign God gave to show the promise was a "bow in the sky" which we think of as a rainbow. By itself the story of Noah's Ark is a great story. It becomes even more exciting and meaningful when we look at how Noah loved God, trusted God and sought to obey God. We will wonder what we can do to be more like Noah.
The Nursery opens at 9:30am for our youngest disciples in the Guiding RAY area every Sunday morning for the later Eucharist. Please contact Alison Hayward, ajhmcmonagle@gmail.com, if you are able to assist her with nursery care.

An Invitation to Join S. Mary's "Merton Group"
Study and Contemplation on Thursdays 2-3 pm
The "Merton Group" is a small, spiritually diverse, inquisitive, tolerant, open-minded, and supportive group of "seekers."
We do this by meeting to read and discuss spiritual works that draw from the Christian religion and other faith traditions in an effort to help us reflect upon our own and the world's spiritual roots and fuel personal growth. Our authors to date have included those steeped in the "perennial" and "contemplative" traditions. Choosing a new book each year, we pray, read aloud, question and respond from heart and mind as each is motivated.
We are starting the book The Meaning of Mary Magdalene by Cynthia Bourgeault this fall. We welcome any who might be curious or feel called. You are invited to drop in and test the waters at any time. FMI: Contact Jennifer Gregg (jenniferanngregg@gmail.com) or the parish office.
Chapel Eucharist: Thursdays in the Chapel at 12 noon
This is an informal time (in a beautiful space!) to gather at the Lord's Table with a meditation on the scripture or the saint of the day and prayers for healing.
Wisdom Seekers: Tuesdays at 10:30 AM
This Bible study group meets weekly in the Guild Room. Everyone is welcome! We are currently studying the Sunday Gospels, Join us!
Noonday Prayer: Mon - Wed in the Chapel
Pause for 10 minutes of prayer together. You are also invited, wherever you may be, to STOP and PRAY with us in the Spirit at 12 noon for those in need, for our parish family, our bishop, and our own daily life with God.
