S. Mary's eNEWS for 6.9.13

Saint Mary’s Weekly News

June 9, 2013 – The 3rd Sunday after Pentecost

Our Prayer Concerns for this week

Lynne Shepherd, Keith Galli, Andrew Leighton, Brigid Cooleen, Stella Baumann, Gary Conway, Nat Fenollosa, Chip Hartwell, Roger Murray, Sandy Snow, and Ann Tholen.

This afternoon,  SUNDAY, JUNE 9th, 5pm:  Our Legacy Project Dedication

We will gather to celebrate the completion of the construction of our new and renovated spaces. Bishop Lane will be our celebrant and preacher for this wonderful service. Please plan to attend and join us for a festive reception after the service.  The loose offering from this special service will go to support our Souper Supper mission to feed all who come and to create a strong bond of fellowship. This mission was dear to the heart of Father James, in whose memory we will dedicate the Chapel.

YOUNG LIFE Meeting: Monday, June 10 at 7 pm

Anyone (parent or teen or otherwise) interested in helping to create a vibrant, ecumenical Christian youth ministry in this area is invited for this follow-up meeting as we begin to make plans for the future. Invite a friend! This is open to all people from any church or no church. FMI, contact Fr. Nathan.

TABLE TALK for Parents of Teens: Wednesday, June 12 at 7 pm

Facilitated by our own Beth Lamberson of Casco Bay CAN, join Fr. Nathan for this group discussion about how parents can work together to keep our teens safe during the summer, and how to prevent substance abuse among our youth. This is a huge issue in our community. All parents are encouraged to join this conversation to learn the truth about substance abuse today and to support one another in our parenting efforts.

Letters and Remembrances of Fr. James

The Book of James Committee has completed a collection of selected AVE articles by Fr. James and our remembrances of and for him.  The collection will be available immediately on our website in PDF form.  There are also 5 spiral-bound copies in the Chapel bookcase that you may sign out to take home and read and return. See Beth to do so.  One copy will remain in the chapel with the Book of James.

The Labyrinth is open and ready for use

It’s located in front of the Rectory, but it is open to all at any time.  Our labyrinth is laid out in the “Chelsea” design with only one path, so there are no tricks and no dead ends.  It is not a maze!  The path winds on a disciplined way throughout the circle and reflects where we are in our lives.  The labyrinth is a perfect symbol for us of what we are called to leave behind, what we are invited to receive and to what we are called to return. Walk it in prayer with God and discover new insights for your journey in Christ.

2013 Stewardship Campaign: “All Baptized into One Body”

If you have not yet participated, then please do so now (no matter how small or large your pledge.) You can make a pledge on-line through our website, or mail a pledge form into the office. Thank you so much for your vital and faithful support of S. Mary’s!

Here are our 2013 Pledge results so far:

Daily Noonday Prayer at Saint Mary’s & a Healing Liturgy

Every weekday at 12 Noon there is a brief gathering for prayer in the Fr. James Chapel.

PLUS on Thursdays, this gathering takes the form of a Healing Eucharist with the laying on of hands. This is preceded by a time of Spiritual Reflection, open to all, which is led by Deacon Christine at 10:30 am.  This may include a bible study, a book study, reflective readings as well as follow-ups and conversations.

Please join us any weekday for Noonday Prayer, and let’s remember to pray for one another at 12 Noon every day, no matter where we might be.

Mass On The Grass begins June 20th at 6 PM

Every Thursday evening throughout the summer, all are invited for an intergenerational, informal, multi-sensory outdoor liturgy at the Labyrinth. Bring your own lawn chair and/or blanket. In case of inclement weather, we’ll gather in the Chapel.

SPARKLES NEWS:     Mark the date now----Dec. 7th, 2013---that is the date for the Sparkles Fair, and it is not too early to think about a few things.

Ø If you are moving, downsizing or closing an estate please remember the Sparkles boutique as a gentle way to part with your treasures.  Distinct and beautiful things are particularly good for the sale.  If storage is a problem (we will have collection dates in the fall) please call Jan Mordarski (899-4099) to make arrangements.

Ø This year’s recipe book will be "Sweet Endings" a collection of desserts, cookies, candies and other sweet treats ----you can e-mail or mail them directly to Beth Shaw at the office.  This will be our final booklet, and we want it to be the "best ever!"

Ø Our knitting corner is always a big hit with our wonderful offerings of knitted and felted creations. so if this is your talent, start knitting and creating lovely items for sale at the fair.  We also love donations of yarns (fabrics too) so if you are cleaning out your "stash closet" remember Sparkles.
