March 29, 2015 – The Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday
125th Anniversary Celebration
Saint Mary’s began as a memorial chapel in memory of Alida Greely Brown who died on April 25, 1889. The chapel was built in 1890. This season of thanksgiving and dedication will focus upon 4 key events in the coming months:
Sunday, April 26 at 9 AM: 125th Anniversary Celebration with the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church: A VERY special day of worship and conversation with the spiritual leader of our Church and our own Bishop Steve as well.
Wednesday, May 6 at 6 PM: The Brown Family and the Making of the Foreside with Earle Shettleworth, Jr., Maine State Archivist: an engaging lecture and multi-media presentation, to learn about the incredible history of the Brown family members and their impact upon this entire region
Sunday, May 17 at 9 AM.: A Day of Service and Goodness with our entire parish family. A Sunday filled with active service projects throughout the Casco Bay region in honor of our basic identity as a community of Christ’s people offering hope and healing to all.
Saturday, June 13 at 12 Noon: Founders Day Picnic: A fun day outdoors with descendants of the Brown family, local civic leaders, good food, live music, and tours of the entire campus, including the crypt and the tower.
The Triduum and Pascha at Saint Mary’s
Maundy Thursday Agape meal sign up
Thursday evening at 6:00 pm. Our Maundy Thursday Agapé Supper and Liturgy is one of our most special liturgies of the year. We gather for a simple meal of soup, bread, cheese, and fruit. Holy Scripture proclaims the institution of the Lord’s Supper and Jesus’ act of service by washing the feet of his disciples. We re-enact the footwashing. At the conclusion of the meal, we walk over to the Church for the remainder of the Eucharist, and the stripping and washing of the Altar.
Visit the Sign-Up Table by the Guild Room where you may indicate if you (and your family/friends) are planning to attend this special event. You may indicate if you would like to, ahead of time, bring: dried fruit, nuts, juice or wine. Please bring to kitchen or office by Monday, March 30.
All-Night Watch of Prayer and Adoration
Maundy Thursday 8:00pm to Good Friday 12 noon in our new Chapel.
“Can you not watch with me one hour?” These are the words spoken by Jesus to his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane. We overcome the failure of the twelve by keeping an all-night watch of prayer and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament in our new Chapel. This is an intimate, highly spiritual time to spend in the presence of God. Visit the Sign-Up Table outside the Guild Room where you may indicate the time that you would like to keep watch.
Good Friday at Saint Mary’s: A Day of Fasting, Prayer, and Giving
Friday at 12 noon: The Prayer Watch ends with the Good Friday Liturgy and Communion from the Reserved Sacrament in the Chapel.
Friday from 12 to 5 PM: Blood Drive. Come and share the gift of life with others as we remember the new life that Christ has given to us in the Paschal mystery. Here in our Parish House Auditorium. Sign-up now or walk in on Friday.
Friday at 7 PM: The Liturgy of the day. There are powerful readings, times of silence, and the Church stripped bare by the austerity of mourning. The Passion According to Saint John is chanted to an ancient tone; a plain, wooden cross is brought into our midst. The organ does not sound; it, too, is silent in the face of Christ’s self-offering.
The Great Vigil
Saturday evening at 7:11 PM. The Great Vigil is the hinge of the entire church year. It begins at sunset with the Blessing of the New Fire, the Lighting of the Paschal Candle, and our procession into the darkness of the Church, still waiting for the light of the Lord’s resurrection. The story of salvation is told through Hebrew Scripture, the font is filled, all are doused with blessed water, the lights of the church go on as Christ is proclaimed as risen, and we gather for our Paschal feast around the Lord’s table! Bring a bell from home to proclaim the Lord’s resurrection! All are welcome.
The Sunday of the Resurrection: Pascha: Easter Day
9 AM & 11 AM: Contemporary Festive Eucharist with organ, brass, and choir.

Christian Formation Notes
Guiding RAY (Religious Adventures for Youth)
At 9:30 AM, Family Chapel is a special time for families and children with Fr. Nathan in the Chapel. Guiding RAY classes begin immediately afterward at 9:45 AM.
The Nursery is open for our youngest disciples in the Kneeler Room (near the Auditorium) beginning at 9:45 AM every Sunday morning.
The Middlers meet at 9:30 AM over in the Living Room of the Rectory. They are led by Jeff and Diane Campbell and they all have a great time together!
Youth Ministry
High School Service Group: April 10, 24, 26
This group serves as a vehicle for service, fellowship and spirituality for all high schoolers. We focus on two of Saint Mary's established outreach programs: Preble Street Soup Kitchen (on the 4th Sunday of every month) and Souper Supper (on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of every month.) Please see the Sign-Up Table outside the Guild Room. Or contact Anne LaFond (alafond@maine.rr.com or 781-8820) with your dates/times or any questions you might have.
Young Life Club: every MONDAY night at 7:31PM !
Every Monday night at 2 Town Landing Rd (the Herdrich family house), all high schoolers are invited to come and bring a friend. You can park in the town lot across from the Town Landing Market. This is CRAZY fun every week!
Community Care & Nurture
Be Still
Saint Mary's serves to offer multiple ways for all to seek, hear, experience God.
One such way is to stop...and give ourselves an opportunity to listen. Parishioners are warmly invited to gather in the Father James' Chapel every Monday in Lent and on the first Monday each month between 7pm and 8pm for silent reflection, contemplation or meditation. There will be no presentation or service. Come for five minutes or come for an hour.
Get Stitching: every Tuesday at 1 PM
We are gathering at the church EVERY TUESDAY AT 1:00pm to stitch. Some are knitting prayer scarves, some making dryer balls, some quilting, some making mitten, or socks, or vests. We help each other and chat about whatever we want. There is laughter as well as concern for our world. Everyone is welcome to an hour (and a half) of productive fellowship.
