Saint Mary's eNEWS for 7.24.16

Saint Mary’s Weekly News

July 24, 2016 – Tenth Sunday after Pentecost

We welcome the Rev. Anne Fowler

We give thanks to God that one of Saint Mary’s own is returning to serve as supply clergy on Sunday and to guide us in worship while Fr. Nathan is away on vacation.

The Reverend Anne is a descendant of General and Mrs. Brown through the Payson clan, and she grew up at Saint Mary’s.  Her mother, Sally Fowler, served this parish as Senior Warden (the first woman in Maine to do so!) and she stitched the third from the left in the Gloria Patri group of kneelers in the front row (dedicated in 1980).

Rev. Anne herself stitched three kneelers:

·       #35 “The Garden” in the Garden of Eden series (dedicated in 1982),

·       #74 “Jewish Symbols” in the Moses series (dedicated in 1991) and

·       #105 “Epiphany” (currently being repaired)

Such beautiful work! Rev. Anne is a certified Spiritual Director and is developing a pastoral counseling and spiritual direction practice in the Portland area. If you are interested in connecting with her, please email her at annecfowler@mac.com.

We’re thrilled to be having Anne among us again!

Deacon Christine’s Retirement Celebration: Sunday, July 31

In consultation with Bishop Steve, Deacon Christine has announced her intention to retire from active ministry at the end of July. On July 31, she will preach and speak to us one last time at both liturgies. And after the 9:30 Eucharist, we will express our thanks to her with a celebration in the Auditorium.  If you can contribute with food or with a gift for this day, please contact Janet Bowne at 318-7045 or janetbowne@maine.rr.com.

Mass on the Grass: Wednesdays at 6:30PM from June 29 to August 3

Away on Sundays in the summer? Gather with us on Wednesdays for an informal, outdoors Eucharist that is participatory, brief and suitable for all ages.

Bring a POTLUCK DISH to share afterward, and we’ll have lawn games (bocce, croquet, frisbee) ready for all. In case of rain, we’ll move into the Parish House.

Each MOTG can end with S’MORES cooked over a campfire (upon request!).
