The ANGELUS and our Patronal Feast of Saint Mary on August 14

On August 14, we celebrate our parish’s Patronal Feast as we remember the faithful life and blessed death of Mary, the mother of our Lord. Every week, we gather in her name and under her patronage, because we desire to lead a faithful life and to meet a blessed death in the same way as she did. Today, we will pray the ancient Angelus prayer in place of the Creed as a way to meditate upon her vocation and to ask for her assistance.

Falmouth Food Pantry

Serving the needs of citizens in Falmouth and surrounding communities for over 25 years.    Food and supplies may be brought to worship on Sundays or to the Parish House during the week.  FFP is always in need of hot and cold cereals, canned meats and fish, canned soups (especially healthy and low sodium), and canned fruit (especially light or in juice.) Thank you for your compassion and generosity!

Youth Ministry

Confirmation Pilgrimage to the Basilica Shrine of Saint Anne de Beaupre

On August 23 – 24, Nathan will lead our 8 youth confirmation candidates to Quebec for a brief visit to this amazing pilgrimage site. This is a Roman Catholic site, but it will give us lots to discuss about who Christ is, who Saint Mary is, and how we are similar to and different from Catholics and other Christians. Please pray for those going on this trip!

Guiding RAY  (Religious Adventures for Youth): off until September 11

Our Guiding RAY program will take a break for the summer months and resume on September 11.  For more information on our Guiding RAY or Godly Play programs, please visit our website  www.smary.org .

The Nursery will remain open for our youngest disciples in the lower level of the Parish House beginning at 9:15 AM every Sunday morning.

BION at Camp Bishopswood: August 16 – 20

All teens who have completed grades 6 – 12 are invited to go up for BION Camp. This is for teens only, with crafts, game nights, ultimate Frisbee, cabin challenges and more!

Gatherings & Events

Maine Marathon: Sunday, October 2

There are TWO ways for you to be involved with this very special community event:

1.     Volunteers are needed to staff the water station directly in front of the Rectory. Give a cup of cold water (or Gatorade!) in Christ’s name. People can work in shifts with the first one beginning at 7:30 AM. Contact Beth in the office if interested.

2.     Runners can join Nathan+ and other Saint Marians in one of our GODSPEED teams. All runners – of ALL abilities – are welcome to participate. Distances vary from 5 to 9 miles. Start your training now! Talk with Nathan+ to join a team.

Organ Recital with Chris Pelonzi: Friday, Sept. 23, 7 PM – save the date!

We will offer a free organ recital by Christopher Pelonzi, Director of Music and Organist at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and by Bruce Fithian. This will be an occasion to celebrate the ongoing restoration of our beautiful Casavant organ and will feature music that is especially suitable for our rare instrument. Please come to the Souper Supper beforehand and enjoy the recital afterwards at 7pm. A free will offering will be collected. Bruce will play a beautiful Chaconne by Dietrich Buxtehude, and two Bach works, a delightful chorale prelude and the toccata in F major. Christopher will play Bach's great Toccata in C Major and other masterworks.

Sparkles NEWS:   MARK these DATES

September 8: the first organization meeting for Sparkles will be at 6:30pm in the Guild Room. If you have not helped before but are interested in joining this fun group, please come to the meeting.  We need lots of helpers to make all the Sparkle events the festive and wonderful time that we have come to know and love.

September 11: the Kick-Off and Welcome Home Church Picnic – there will be a Sparkles Table with information.  Please stop and get a Newsletter and ask any questions you may have.  We will also have the Gift Boxes there, ready to take home and be filled.

October 8: the first drop-off date for items you may wish to donate to the Boutique.  We take any gently used household items and treasures.  Donations are accepted between 9am and 12noon at the Parish Hall.  We sort through the items and anything not appropriate is given to St. Elizabeth's (Please no rummage, books or clothing.) If you are a quilter or seamstress or knitter, your "stash" is always wanted by someone, so this is a good time to sort and simplify. We are happy to provide a tax donation receipt.

Be sure to "like us" on Facebook to keep up with what is new at SparklesSt.MarysFalmouth. We hope you will join in the fun – Jan Mordarski and Onnie Hastings,  Sparkles Co-Chairs
