Saint Mary's eNEWS for 9.4.16

Saint Mary’s Weekly News

for September 4, 2016 – The Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Thanks be to God for the Rev. Tom White  who serves Sunday as our guest Preacher and Presider. He is recently retired from the Diocese of Connecticut and has settled with his wife in Kennebunk. We welcome him to the Diocese of Maine and thank him for leading us in worship this Sunday while Nathan and Erin take their daughter Se’ to college.

Thursday Eucharist returns September 8 in the Chapel at 12 noon

This is an informal time to gather at the Lord’s Table with a meditation on the scripture or the saint of the day, time for group discussion, and prayers for healing.

Noonday Prayer every other weekday in the Chapel

Pause for 10 minutes of prayer together. Everyone is welcome! You are also invited, wherever you may be, to STOP and PRAY with us in the Spirit at 12 noon for those in need, for our parish family, for our bishop, and for your own daily life with God.

 Let’s all wear our Nametags!

Nametags are found in the Parish House front hallway. As a gesture of hospitality, please wear them each Sunday and speak to those who look new or lost on our campus. If you need your own nametag, contact Beth in the parish office and we’ll make it happen.

Looking for Vestry Nominations

The Nominating Committee is seeking names of parishioners to serve on the Vestry as well as delegates to the 2017 Diocesan Convention.  The Vestry has four openings for three-year terms and one opening for a one-year term.  We are seeking one Diocesan Convention delegate (along with the wardens and treasurer) and three alternates.  You can submit your own name or someone else’s.

While the present wardens and treasurer have expressed their willingness to continue for another two-year term, names can be submitted for those positions as well.

Nominations are open through September 30, at which time the Nominating Committee will review names and make recommendations to the parish for a slate to be voted on at the Annual Meeting in late January.   Nomination forms are available in the narthex, outside of the Guild Room or in the parish office.

There are TWO ways for you to be involved with this very special community event:

1.     Volunteers are needed to staff the water station directly in front of the Rectory. Give a cup of cold water (or Gatorade!) in Christ’s name. People can work in shifts with the first one beginning at 7:30 AM. Contact Beth in the office if interested.

Organ Recital with Chris Pelonzi: Friday, Sept. 23, 7 PM – save the date!

We will offer a free organ recital by Christopher Pelonzi, Director of Music and Organist at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and by Bruce Fithian. This will be an occasion to celebrate the ongoing restoration of our beautiful Casavant organ and will feature music that is especially suitable for our rare instrument. Please come to the Souper Supper beforehand and enjoy the recital afterwards at 7pm. A free will offering will be collected. Bruce will play a beautiful Chaconne by Dietrich Buxtehude, and two Bach works, a delightful chorale prelude and the toccata in F major. Christopher will play Bach's great Toccata in C Major and other masterworks.
