Saint Mary's eNEWS for 10.9.16

Saint Mary’s Weekly News

for October 9, 2016 – The Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost

Columbus Day Al-Parish Hike: Monday, October 10, 9 AM start

Pleasant Mountain in Bridgton is the highest mountain in southern Maine. It is 2,006 feet tall with excellent views.  All people are welcome to join our hike, as well as friendly dogs. We’ll leave from Saint Mary’s via carpool at 9 AM sharp. Bring your own water and lunch. Dress prepared for the weather, and be ready to perhaps stop together for dinner on the way back to Falmouth.

Family Apple-Picking: Saturday, October 15, 10 AM

Meet at the Orchard Hill Farm (36 Orchard Hill Rd in Cumberland) for apple-picking, cider and donuts, and a hayride. All are welcome! Guiding RAY will pay for all children, and adults are $6.75 each. Bring some friends!

2017 Stewardship Campaign

We have kicked off our 2017 Stewardship Pledge Campaign. Pledging an amount you can comfortably give during 2017 helps us budget adequately for our program, mission and overhead expenses like utilities, salaries and insurance. Thank you to everyone who supports Saint Mary’s financially. We are blessed to have so many committed to the work we do here. Our goal for 2017 is $285,000. Often people ask about what amount to give. Our parishioners pledge anywhere from $10/week to over $300/week. Some people opt to give once a year while others give weekly using anonymous numbered envelopes to pay their pledge. All contributions are kept in strictest confidence and if your circumstances change during the year, simply contact Beth Shaw, our Parish Administrator to make a change to your pledge. Often people say they’d prefer to give as the spirit moves them each week without making a commitment. We welcome all gifts but pledging at a baseline will help us to plan for our expenses. So think about what you might be able to do and watch your mail for your pledge packet. When you’re ready, complete the pledge form and return it to Beth by mail, email (admin@smary.org) or in an envelope into the collection plate on Sundays! Thank you for your support!

Serving The World

Souper Supper: 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month (October 14 & 28)

Our free suppers in our Parish House Auditorium are open to anyone and everyone. Please consider dropping in sometime between 5 – 7 PM on either evening for dinner served in a family-style setting and consisting of a hearty soup, salad, bread, homemade desserts and beverages. And we are always looking for more servers to join the Souper Supper Team. FMI, contact Jennifer Gregg  (jenniferanngregg@gmail.com or 781-2665).

Community Harvest Dinner: Thursday, October 20

The 8th annual Harvest Community Supper will be held at the Falmouth Congregational Church (267 Falmouth Road) on Thursday, October 20, 2016, from 4:30 to 7:00PM. Saint Mary’s, the other Falmouth churches and Jewish community, will combine to host a free turkey supper to raise funds for the Falmouth Food Pantry, a resource devoted to serving the growing needs of many in our area. Please come by and enjoy an evening of good food, goodwill and friendship. Free-will donations will be gratefully accepted.

While there is no longer a need for turkey donors or turkey and squash cooks, Saint Mary’s parishioners are asked to volunteer for serving and cleanup at the event.  Please volunteer by signing up by October 7 on the poster by the Kitchen.

Thank you in advance for supporting this worthy cause. Call John Brooks (781-2097) with any questions.

Community Care & Nurture

Wisdom Seekers: every Tuesday at 10:30 AM

This Bible study group meets on Tuesdays in the Guild Room. Nadine Timberlake is the group leader. All are welcome, because there is always room for anyone who wants to study the Bible and discuss its meaning for our lives today.

Thursday Eucharist: every Thursday in the Chapel at 12 noon

This is an informal time to gather at the Lord’s Table with a meditation on the scripture or the saint of the day, time for group discussion, and prayers for healing. It usually lasts about 45 minutes. All are welcome!

Noonday Prayer: every other weekday in the Chapel

Pause for 10 minutes of prayer together. Everyone is welcome! You are also invited, wherever you may be, to STOP and PRAY with us in the Spirit at 12 noon for those in need, for our parish family, for our bishop, and for your own daily life with God.
