Gatherings & Events
Saint Mary's 12th Annual Lobster Bake & Auction: Saturday, August 13
To be held on our lawns, weather permitting. Beginning at 4:30 pm, rain or shine, join fellow parishioners, family and friends for fun, fellowship and feasting. Lobster/Steamer dinner, BBQ Chicken dinner, and grilled burgers and hotdogs. To purchase tickets, contact Beth in the office 781-3366, smary@smary.org or Betsy & Jim Stoddard, 829-2026, jbstod@myfairpoint.net.
The Auction Committee has received live and silent auction items thus far including Red Sox tickets. Kindly consider donating an auction item to this event. Can you offer a service or an experience? If you prefer to underwrite, Gift certificates are very popular. We are still looking for a co-chair for this wonderful annual event; if interested, contact the Wardens or the Stoddards.
Maine Marathon: Sunday, October 2
There are TWO ways for you to be involved with this very special community event:
1. Volunteers are needed to staff the water station directly in front of the Rectory. Give a cup of cold water (or Gatorade!) in Christ’s name. People can work in shifts with the first one beginning at 7:30 AM. Contact Beth in the office if interested.
2. Runners can join Nathan+ and other Saint Marians in one of our GODSPEED teams. All runners – of ALL abilities – are welcome to participate. Distances vary from 5 to 9 miles. Start your training now! Talk with Nathan+ to join a team.
Sparkles NEWS: MARK these DATES
September 8: the first organization meeting for Sparkles will be at 6:30pm in the Guild Room. If you have not helped before but are interested in joining this fun group, please come to the meeting. We need lots of helpers to make all the Sparkle events the festive and wonderful time that we have come to know and love.
September 11: the Kick-Off and Welcome Home Church Picnic – there will be a Sparkles Table with information. Please stop and get a Newsletter and ask any questions you may have. We will also have the Gift Boxes there, ready to take home and be filled.
October 8: the first drop-off date for items you may wish to donate to the Boutique. We take any gently used household items and treasures. Donations are accepted between 9am and 12noon at the Parish Hall. We sort through the items and anything not appropriate is given to St. Elizabeth's (Please no rummage, books or clothing.) If you are a quilter or seamstress or knitter, your "stash" is always wanted by someone, so this is a good time to sort and simplify. We are happy to provide a tax donation receipt.
Be sure to "like us" on Facebook to keep up with what is new at SparklesSt.MarysFalmouth. We hope you will join in the fun – Jan Mordarski and Onnie Hastings, Sparkles Co-Chairs
Organ Recital with Chris Pelonzi: Friday, Sept. 23, 7 PM – save the date!
We will offer a free organ recital by Christopher Pelonzi, Director of Music and Organist at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and by Bruce Fithian. This will be an occasion to celebrate the ongoing restoration of our beautiful Casavant organ and will feature music that is especially suitable for our rare instrument. Please come to the Souper Supper beforehand and enjoy the recital afterwards at 7pm. A free will offering will be collected. Bruce will play a beautiful Chaconne by Dietrich Buxtehude, and two Bach works, a delightful chorale prelude and the toccata in F major. Christopher will play Bach's great Toccata in C Major and other masterworks.
