Saint Mary’s Weekly News
August 18, 2013 – The 13th Sunday after Pentecost
Our prayer concerns for this week
Nat Fenollosa, Keith Galli, Chip Hartwell, Andrew Leighton, Lee Snow, Sandy Snow and Ann Tholen.
Welcome Home, Bruce! We missed you in our choir loft and among us. We hope you had a wonderful rest.
This Sunday, we celebrate !!
This Sunday morning, will celebrate the patronage of the Blessed Mother, Saint Mary the Virgin, who is officially known in the Church as “Theotokos = the God-bearer.” As a fitting part of our festivities, at our 9:30am Eucharist, we will bring two new people into the fellowship of the Body of Christ through the waters of Holy Baptism! Congratulations and welcome to Luke Brown and Charlotte Rana!
(Note: The Baptism of Tatjana Connors and her children, Caleigh Connors, Ashleigh Connors, and Cian Connors has been postponed to September 15, due to the constraints of their family schedule.)
‘Walk the Mourner’s Path’ to find healing and release
“Transforming grief into joyful living.” This eight-week class offered by Deacon Christine Bennett, offers ways, in a confidential and quiet setting, to share, learn and understand how grief affects us and how Jesus offers hope and healing. The next class is starting Tuesday, August 20th at 4pm. Contact Deacon Christine, 653-2448 or 655-3282, or the parish office with your interest.
Temporary Legacy Donor Board - Last Chance to Review!
We will be placing the order for the permanent Legacy Donor Plaque in the next week or two. For those who may not yet have pledged and want to be listed, please send in your Legacy pledge form soon, so we can ensure that you make it on the Board!
A poster version of the permanent Legacy donor board is on display in the foyer of the auditorium. Check it out to ensure your name is listed correctly. Haven't pledged but want to see your name on the board? It's not too late! On the table in front of the temporary board, there's a sheet for corrections to be noted. Please clearly write the correction.
Daily Noonday Prayer at Saint Mary’s
Please join us any weekday for a brief (10 min.) Noonday Prayer in the Chapel, and let’s remember to pray for one another at 12 Noon every day, no matter where we might be.
Young Life Prayer Meeting: Saturday, August 24, 8 AM
In support of the efforts being made to reach the teens of our communities with the Good News of Christ and to create a vibrant ecumenical youth group, a group will meet on Saturday morning, August 24 at 8 AM in the Fr. James Chapel simply to pray. We will pray for our young people and ask God to guide us as we seek to minister to them and with them. All are welcome! No special skill is needed, only a desire to support this work.
Welcome Home Carnival and All -Parish Picnic: September 8
Plans are being made now to kick off our new Program Year with energy! Any ideas for fun that you have will be welcome. Some events kids love are water balloons, relay races, face painting, pastel drawings, guessing games, bingo, lawn bowling, and of course, the bounce house. If you can host a game, we need you!! Also sign up to bake a whole cake for the Cake Walk that day also. To help out or provide a cake, please email Heather Gale hpgale@earthlink.net . Let’s work together to celebrate the children of S. Mary’s and to welcome them back for a new year in Guiding RAY!
Next Sunday, August 25th is our Soup Kitchen Sunday
The fourth Sunday of each month, Saint Mary’s prepares and serves a hot meal to the clients at the Preble Street Soup Kitchen. We need people to (a) go around 10:30 to help with the cooking and set-up; (b) to arrive about 11:45 to assist with table service; and/or (c) to help with clean-up beginning at 1:00. Bless you. Questions? Please call Marian McCue at 761-1936 or mmccue@maine.rr.com

Prepare for SPARKLES now! December 7, 2013
Mark the date now for our 2013 Sparkles Fair! It is not too early to prepare:
Ø If you are moving, downsizing or closing an estate, please remember the Sparkles boutique as a gentle way to part with your treasures. Distinct and beautiful things are particularly good for the sale. If storage is a problem, we will have collection dates in the fall. Please call Jan Mordarski (899-4099) to make arrangements.
Ø This year’s recipe book will be Sweet Endings: a collection of desserts, cookies, candies and other sweet treats. You can e-mail or mail them directly to Beth Shaw at the office. This will be our final booklet, and we want it to be the best ever!
Ø Our knitting corner is always a big hit with our wonderful offerings of knitted and felted creations. If this is your talent, start knitting and creating lovely items for sale at the fair. We also love donations of yarns and fabrics. If you are cleaning out your "stash closet", please remember Sparkles which will be coming soon.
Eucharistic Visitors take Holy Communion to those unable to worship with us on Sunday morning. The Eucharistic Visitor today is Stan Eaton. During the week if you or someone you know needs communion, please call the Parish Office. If you wish to learn more about this special ministry, feel free to speak with Deacon Christine at any time.
