Candlemas to be celebrated at Saint Mary’s
This morning, we will celebrate 'Candlemas,' also known as The Presentation of our Lord in the Temple, celebrating an early episode in the life of Jesus. As part of this service, we invite you to bring candles from home to be blessed at both 8 and 10am services for you to use throughout the year. At the 10 o’clock service, we will all sing the Nunc Dimittis as the Choir and Altar Ministers process around the nave. The choir will sing a special anthem for this feast day as we celebrate Christ as the Light of the world.
Ministry Fair - Next Sunday, February 9th
On February 9th in the auditorium, following both the 8 & 10 services, we will hold our Ministry Fair. Here you will find representatives from each of the guild, ministries teams at S. Mary’s ready to tell you about their ministry and answer any questions you may have. We hope that through this vehicle you may find a place (or two or three!) where you can use your unique gifts in the service of others for the glory of God.

Vision 2014
Many thanks to all who set-up, cooked, prepared, cleaned and participated in the Annual Meeting/Vision 2014 Event! It was a wonderful gathering with great conversations about Saint Mary’s past, present and future. Our two discussion questions evoked lots of thoughtful responses and for those that would like to add more comments or would like to respond for the first time, forms are available in the parish house, the narthex of the church or by email if you contact Beth or Nathan in the office.
February 7-14: National Marriage Week
Be part of a national effort to strengthen relationships of all kinds. Take a relationship assessment called Couple Check-Up during this week and gain some objectivity about your relationship.
1. Go to www.couplecheckup.com and take the assessment.
2. Sign-in with our Group # 14780-2014. All information is confidential. This number gives us information on the health of couples in the parish in general.
3. Come to the Retreat (below) to talk through the results and find proven tools for improving the health of your most important human relationship!
March 1: Couple Check-Up Retreat
All couples (even those not-yet-married) are invited to a brief time apart to talk through their Couple Check-Up assessments and to learn from one another about how to strengthen our relationships. Sign-up NOW in the Parish House. You can stay afterward for our Mardi Gras potluck or make dinner reservations out for a real date!
Mardi Gras Potluck and Talent Show at Saint Mary’s: March 1, 5-7 PM
Mark this date on your calendar, Saint Marians! Entertainment at its finest will occur the Saturday before Mardi Gras! Andrea Myles-Hunkin, the shy, modest, parishioner we recognize from her choice of wacky legwear will be emceeing the TALENT SHOW. The last time this took place was a couple of years ago, and we had a great turnout of both spectators and talent.
Magic tricks, humor, storytelling, piano playing, singing, dancing and unforgettable moments in time occurred before our very eyes. You may be 8 or you may be 80! No matter your age, please prepare a performance to share in front of our very enthusiastic Saint Mary audience. Remember that this showcase is rated PG (since some parents may be guiding their young ones onto the stage.) We want everyone to have fun, relax and laugh away their winter blues right before the Lenten season.
For more information or to enter your act, please contact Andrea Myles-Hunkin at mylesfromhome@msn.com Remember March 1st -- be there or be square!!
Spiritual nourishment for all: Thursdays at Saint Mary’s
All are welcome for a time of spiritual refreshment and community. If you need help with transportation or childcare in order to participate, provisions can be made. Please ask!
10:30am: Wisdom Seekers – NEW Bible Study In February! There will be a Bible Study looking at "The Sermon on the Mount" on the four Thursdays in February. This will be particularly appropriate in that our lectionary readings for the Sundays through the end of Epiphany are taken from Matthew's Gospel. Many believe that the sermon (Chapters 5-7 of Matthew) is the heart the Gospel. Various resources will be used, including John Stott's study of the Sermon from the Lifeguide Study series. The Rev. Jim Low will facilitate the study.
12noon: Healing Eucharist with the laying on of hands for healing. All are welcome. You do not need to be ill. This is a brief, informal liturgy in the Chapel.
